Background
One of the challenges for university teachers in the internet age is that how to motivate students’ interests and to activate their initial engagement, which is also the key for university classroom reform. Among the policies of higher education reform, improving the talents quality by the reform has been taken as the important strategy, various universities have launched he reform on education and teaching.
However, the rapid march of internet age and artificial intelligence makes the universities must reflect the demands for talents in the future society systematically in the reform of talents cultivation. In this way can the education goal should be finalized and the existing knowledge spoon-feeding education pattern could be reformed. That is t say, the reform of higher education in current days not only requires the change of teaching techniques but also the innovation of education philosophies and objectives.
Since the establishment of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), it combines the essence of culture and education from the west and the east, integrating the global resources and devoting to explore the new mode of higher education, which caters for the needs of future society, forming the students-centered research-led education philosophy and mode. The above fruits could be communicated and spread to the domestic universities through the ILEAD. Starting from 2015, the “National University Teaching Innovation” award has been held by XJTLU for finding out the front-line teachers at home, who benefit the students by teaching innovation. Also, the excellent teaching innovative cases would be collected; nearly 100 excellent cases have been accumulated from the competition in the past 2 years.
Zhu Xiaohan, from the school of international education at Zhengzhou University of Light Industry, is the winner for the “ Special Award for Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education” in the 2nd “XJTLU National Teaching Innovation Award” in 2016. She is an outstanding one among all the candidates from the Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education and her success demonstrates the efforts made by the university in supporting teacher development and its achievement. Therefore, the teaching innovation seminar has been held jointly by XJTLU and Zhengzhou University of Light Industry, which aims to discuss that how to master the opportunities, innovate the teaching and improve the talents quality at last with more front-line teachers and education managers.
