The education is the essence of the plan for hundred of years. With the development of science and technology and the gradual progress of economy and the society, the higher education is confronted with unprecedented chances and challenges. The report of 19th CPC National Congress points out it is the fundamental project to construct a great country with strong education; therefore, the education should be put in the first place, the education reform should be deepened and the education modernization should be paced so that the people are satisfied with the education. The Overall Plan for Promoting the Construction of World-Class Universities and Subjects points out the talents cultivation should be emphasized as the core status, setting the students’ growth as the starting point for all the work in the school. Many schools think that it is of great importance to innovate talents cultivation in the reform, a great number of universities in China initiated the “student-centered” teaching reform. However, the cultivation of students not only relies on teachers but also on the various departments in the education system. The teaching management staff in higher education plays the supportive role in management system. The teaching management is directly related with the quality of talents cultivation; supporting, leading and coordinating the teaching plan, operation and quality management. Currently, the system and methods of university teaching management focus on the knowledge transformation, inheriting the traditional “pyramids” management system and working style, spending much energy in implementing the indexes assigned from the school and nation level instead of caring for students. Therefore, how to establish the awareness of service of university teaching management staff? How to improve the working efficiency and competence and develop creativity by adopting the university management and meeting the demands of knowledge economy?
The ILEAD of XJTLU holds the support- and service-oriented teaching management training program, which is based on the discovery for confronting the challenges of higher education by integrating the education resources and wisdom from the east and the west, focusing on the management problems like “administration-centered” concept of teaching management staff, much emphasis on “teaching” rather than “learning”. This program concentrates on several core modules include: “student-centered” higher education philosophy, the role recognition of teaching management staff and the improvement of teaching management competence. It facilitates the participants to transform their concepts from “administration-centered” to “students-centered”, helping the participants to improve the teaching management competence and discussing relationship between the personal behaviour of teaching management staff and students’ learning and growth together with the participants. At last, the teaching management mode, which is suitable for talents cultivation, can be established. The participants can gain the following benefits:
1. Deepen the understanding of students-centered educational philosophy
Discuss the challenges and reform trends of domestic higher education globally in depth, inspire the participants to rethink the values of higher education, analyse the “student-centered” education philosophies and practices based on the cases of XJTLU, help the participants to transfer the concept from “administration-centered” to “student-centered”.
2. Establish the support and service-oriented role recognition
Discuss the supportive role of teaching management staff in education system from perspectives of scientific university management system, organization structure, student-involved academic affairs management system, teacher development and support. Promote the participants to set the students’ growth as the starting point and discover the new mode for teaching management, which is applicable for talents cultivation.
3. Enhance the professional competence of teaching management
Learn about the relevant theories in teaching, learning and assessment; think how to serve for teaching and students from the wider horizon based on the practical cases of course setting, quality assurance, professional academic support. Stick to the basic rules of teaching and research activities and promote students’ learning and growth so that the teaching quality can be improved finally.
4. Help the participants to achieve the behaviour transformation

Teaching management staff include: staff in academic affairs department of universities, vice dean and secretary of academic affairs. The scale of this activity is planned around 40 people.
Activities: Main activities include: featured reports, seminars, group discussions, emphasizing on interactive discussions, team work and case study. The ILEAD will offer long-term support, help and encourage the participants to establish the cooperation and exchange relationship with the organizers.
