About

Background

Under the trend of economic and education globalization, Sino-foreign cooperation in running schools has become an important strategy to import international higher education resource in order to enhance education quality and to propel higher education reform in China. Many universities and colleges are exploring sino-foreign cooperative education via setting up joint higher education programs, institutes, and universities. By January 2018, there are 2,626 joint higher education programs, institutes, and universities all over the country. However, the biggest challenge remains to be how to achieve sustainable development for these programs, institutes, and universities in terms of policy and regulations, governance and partnership, program and module development, faculty recruitment and management, and student affairs.

 

Program Objective

This program aims to better assist the institutes and programs which intend to initiate or in the process of applying and managing Sino-foreign cooperative education programs and institutes to understand the policy and to set up appropriate cooperation model for sustainable development.Partcipants will obtain the following benefits:

  • Comprehensive understanding of  the policy and regulations of Sino-foreign cooperation in running schools

  • Thorough discussion of the establishment, operation and management of Sino-foreign cooperative education programs, institutes, and universities in order to enhance international competitiveness

  • Assist participants to better define the roles and functions of different partners to build up an effective collaboration mechanism

  • Comprehensive analysis of successful operating experience and best practice of talent development model that integrates the uniqueness and advantages of each partners

Module 1 :Sustainable Development of Chinese-Foreign Cooperation in Running Schools

After more than ten years effort, sino-foreign cooperation in running schools have achieved great success in terms of number. However, the Quality doesn’t go alone with the quantity, affecting sustainability. This module will take close and in-depth review of XJTLU to explore its clear positioning, education philosophy, innovative teaching method, open and diversified platform, and interaction with the society. 

Module 2 :Curriculum System Construction

Sino-foreign cooperative education has been recognized by students for its internationalization and student-centered education concept. Education goals are often achieved through the design, implementation, and evaluation of the student cultivation process. This module will focus on the talent development model of cooperative education, and specifically discuss how to integrate the education strategy, curriculum system, ideological and political curriculum, teaching model, and faculty management of international teaching staff of cooperation partners. This module will assist participants to construct a curriculum system that integrates uniqueness of both sides, transform from teacher-centered model to a learner-centered, context driven, problem-based learning model, and to improve the recruitment, evaluation, and development of international teaching staff. 

Module 3 :Student Affairs

Differences in Chinese and Western cultural backgrounds lead to different assumptions for students. Traditional work styles that focus on management and education no longer adapts to the times and the future trends of education. The importance of student affairs in the development of higher education is becoming increasingly evident. This module will set the student management work of Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University as a case, discuss with participants how student affairs will be integrated in the context of Chinese and foreign schools, innovate the student affairs work model, and integrate the Chinese and Western cultures throughout the entire process, finally to cultivate students' innovative ability and learning initiative together with classroom teaching.

Module 4 :Policy and Development Trend

Introduce national-level policies and procedures for application, approval, and supervision of Chinese-foreign cooperative education projects to help participants accurately grasp the development trend of Sino-foreign cooperative education, and make more targeted preparations for application process, and cope with problems during the operation process. At the same time, discussion about the specific case study and major problems will be held in terms of introduction of foreign education resources, program and module design, partnership to better help to clarify their legal status and rationalize relationship and responsibilities of both parties, and to standardize the internal management mechanism, and reasonably mitigate potential risks.
